Chysler Viper Oreca

The Chrysler Viper GTS-R chassis C26R was a notable example of the Viper’s racing pedigree, actively competing in European GT racing from 2000 to 2002. Fielded by the French Team ART, it was driven by seasoned racers Jean-Pierre Jarier and François Lafon.

In the 2000 season, C26R participated in both the FFSA GT Championship and the FIA GT Championship. Highlights included a victory at the Hungaroring and podium finishes at Val de Vienne and Magny-Cours in the FFSA GT series. In the FIA GT Championship, the car secured a fifth-place finish at Monza and a ninth-place at Silverstone. An attempt to enter the 24 Hours of Le Mans that year was unsuccessful, as the entry was not accepted.

The 2001 season saw C26R continue in the FIA GT Championship, though it faced challenges with mechanical issues leading to retirements, such as a differential failure at Monza. Despite these setbacks, the team persisted into 2002, with the car achieving eighth-place finishes at Silverstone and Jarama. However, reliability issues persisted, including an engine failure at Brno.

Throughout its racing tenure, C26R was distinguished by its dark blue, yellow, orange, and green livery. It was equipped with a naturally aspirated 7,986 cc V10 engine and utilized Pirelli tires. The car’s consistent presence in European GT racing during this period underscores its role in the competitive landscape of early 2000s motorsport.
