The Porsche S/T 2.3 was a factory racing version of the 911 built to Group 4 specification in 1970. These cars benefited from a number of performance enhancements such as; a lightweight body with an especially thin shell, composite bumpers, and bonnet. The engine gained at least 100 HP over the standard road car. Deletion of creature comforts in the interior such as the ash tray, glove box, and passenger sun visior. In addition the cars featured improved suspension, brakes, and cooling to cope with the demands of endurance racing. The most obvious difference between the S/T and the standard roadcar on which it was based was the wider sculpted front and rear fenders which give the S/T its distinguised look.
The S/T is a very important model in the history of the 911 as it marks the debut of the wide, and fast, competition GT cars which eventually gave birth to the all important RSR. Many Porsche connaiseurs prefer the look of the S/T to the later RSRs because it features the pure 911 shape with wider fenders, but still with out the ducktail, or whaletail which came in the later years. The S/T really put Porsche and the 911 on the map securing many victories in endurance racing as well as Rallye.
This S/T started life as a standard 1969 911E orignally delivered to Sonauto. When Dominique Bardini inquired about purchasing an S/T to race for the 1971 season he was told non of the factory built cars remained availible for purchase. Bardini then aquired this 911 and had it built up to S/T specification by Team Balsa, and Delta Racing. The car went on to compete in the 1000km of Nurburgring, 4 hours of Le Mans, and an incredible 5 participations in the Tour de France Automobile.
Having just come out of a complete restoration by marque specialist Roock Sportsystem whose last complete S/T restorations went on to win their category in Le Mans classic in 2022, and Tour Auto in 2023. This car has a lovely history, a beautiful livery, and is ready to take its next owner to the podium.
