In 1973 Porsche had really begun to hit its stride with the 911. Building on the success of the 911 S/T Porsche decided to up the level once again and build a successor - the now infamous “RSR”. This car built to the Group 4 regulations of its day was an improvement in everyway over the previous model wider, more powerful, faster. To comply with the Group 4 regulations the FIA required manufactures to produce at least 500 road going Group 3 versions of the race car, also known as a “homologation special”. The legendary 2.7 RS was born, and is perhaps the most iconic 911 of them all. With its patented and revolutionary “Ducktail” spoiler the 2.7 RS was a racecar for the road. Intially planned for a production run of 500 cars to meet the FIA requirments, The RS was so desireable Porsche went on to produce almost 3 times that amount in 3 different seires of production.
There were 2 main versions of the 2.7 RS – The “Touring” and the “Lightweight”. The Touring being the standard model, best adapted to everyday use. The lightweight being the stripped out racer with a special shell made of very thin and light metal, special lightweight Glaverbel glass, a single drivers side mirrior and sunvisor. The M471 “Lightweight” option saved an enormous 100KG over the standard Touring version of the car.
Of the 1580 2.7 RS produced by Porsche. In 1973, only 200 were produced in M471 “Lightweight” specification, making the lightweright RS very rare, and very desirable. Of the 3 different prodcution series of the 2.7 RS, the 1st series is the most soaght after.
This lovely car is the one of the highly sought after first series of production, as well as being one of the 200 M471 “Lightweights”. First delivred to Sonauto to the famous French film director and writer Gérard Pirès – responsble for films such at “Taxi” This 2.7 RS has known ownership history throught its life.
This car has been completley restored, only just having been finished in December 2024. Finished in its orignal light yellow color, and retaining its numbers matrching engine. Also included with the car are the very difficult to obtain period factory build sheet, as well as a Porsche certifiate of authenticity.
