The Porsche S/T 2.3 was a factory racing version of the 911 built to Group 4 specification in 1970. These cars benefited from a number of performance enhancements such as; a lightweight body with an especially thin shell, composite bumpers, and bonnet. Deletion of creature comforts in the interior such as the ash tray, glove box, and passenger sun visior. In addition the cars featured improved suspension, brakes, and cooling to cope with the demands of endurance racing. The most obvious difference between the S/T and the roadcar on which it was based was the wider sculpted front and rear fenders which give the S/T its distinguised look.
The S/T is a very important model in the history of the 911 as it marks the debut of the wide, and fast, competition GT cars which eventually gave birth to the all important RSR. Many Porsche connaiseurs prefer the look of the S/T to the later RSRs because it features the pure 911 shape with wider fenders, but still with out the ducktail, or whaletail which came in the later years. The S/T really put Porsche and the 911 on the map securing many victories in endurance racing as well as Rallye.
The factory built a mere 20 S/T in 1970 for competition use making these cars exceptionally rare, and desirable. The factory also offered an S/T kit to its dealers so they could built up customer street 911s for competition use. This has led to a number of period S/T converions, not to be confused with the original factory built cars.
This particular S/T is one of the orignal 20 factory built cars, and enjoys amazing history and pedregree. Prepared by the Swiss team Haberthur for the driver Pierre Greub the car participated in the Targa Florio, 1000km of Nurburgring, and 4 apperiences at the legendary 24 hours of le Mans. The car was also entered in the equally important Tour Automobile in which its participation never materialized.
Never say Never! Following the car’s comprehsneive nut and bolt, rotisserie restoration by Roock Sportsytem in Germany in 2022, the car was entered in the 2023 edition of the Tour Auto where the car ran competitivley and faultlessly securing a class win, and 3rd place overall.
This race ready S/T is completely number’s matching, it comes with an FIA Technical Passport valid for another 8 years, as well as a Porsche certificate of Authenticity.
